ONBETAALBAAR – which is Dutch for ‘priceless’ - is both a workspace and a think tank. It’s a place where furniture makers, designers and creatives find each other in their love for materials and objects with a soul. With its prototypes ONBETAALBAAR aims at bringing new life into old materials. Based on the analysis of our waste stream, prototypes are being designed and developed, with a view to producing them locally. At the Contemporary Design Market, ONBETAALBAAR presents its multiple choice(s) chairs. Veerle Tytgat knits ribbons in an uncontrolled and random pattern. Sophie De Somere found a series of discarded school chairs. Together they designed a self-knitted wrapping for these famous chairs. In a sheltered workshop, different marbled ribbons made of recycled threads, are assembled into a teeming ensemble. Durable, socially responsible and aesthetic at the same time. The result is an endless choice of colours, fabrics, chair legs and combinations.
